In 1995, we first organized the Ajou Otology
Symposium to commemorate the first anniversary and the founding of the Department.
This symposium has been held annually, for the last ten years, on the first
Saturday of June, the month that we had started to take care of patients
for the first time in 1994. The main topic of the Ajou Otology Symposium
is the field of otologic research. In reminiscing over the last ten years
of Ajou Otology Symposium, we found more than 60 doctors and researchers
who had spoken on their research and work, and over 1,200 doctors from other
hospitals and universities who joined this symposium and enjoyed the lectures.
Not only have we been pleased with the positive responses from other doctors,
but we were also convinced that the knowledge gained through these symposiums
would allow us greater opportunities for achievement in basic research and
in the end provide the necessary contribution for the advancement of the
Korean otologic research field. Since this year is the 10th anniversary
of the Department, we have prepared the 10th Ajou Otology Symposium with
the title of “Middle Ear Research”. Our hope is to present currently
advanced works and thereby illuminate the future in middle ear research.
