Professor Lim has been working in the School of Electrical & Computer Eng., and Dept. of Physics of Ajou University since September 1975. He has graduated from Seoul National University receiving BS and MS degrees in Physics in Feb. 1971 and Aug. 1974, respectively. He received his Ph. D. degree in Applied Solid State Physics in Feb. 1982 from University of Montpellier II in France. His research experience includes post Doc. at the Solid-State Electronics Center of the University of Montpellier II (Feb. 82-Aug. 82), Visiting Scholar in the Solid State Physics Research Group of Ecole Normale Superior (ENS) in Paris, France (Feb. 86-Jan. 87), and Distinguished Visiting Scholar in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Northwestern University in USA (Feb. 97-Jan. 98), Visiting Professor in the Physics Department of Wuerzburg University, Germany (Jun.-July 2008), and Visiting Researcher in the NIMS (Nat¡¯l Inst. of Materials Science), Japan (Nov. 2008).
His research interest comprises i) the physical properties of semiconductor defects, heterointerfaces and quantum structures and their applications in semiconductor devices, ii) photonic crystals and their applications, and iii) semiconductor devices reliability. He has authored or coauthored more than 170 articles in the international scientific or engineering journals, about 50 research papers in domestic scientific journals and more than 70 presentations in the int¡¯l conference including 10 invited talks.
He has served as the Dean of Research Affairs in Ajou University (Mar. 93-Feb. 95 and May 02-Dec. 03), Chief Editor of Korean Journal of Applied Physics (Apr. 95-Mar. 97), the Head of BK21 Program in Ajou University granted from the Ministry of Education (Sept. 99-July 2001), Member of the Basic Science Promotion Committee of the Korea Research Foundation (Mar. 2000-Feb. 02), the Steering Committee for the Nat¡¯l Planning of Sci. & Technol. for the years 2001-2006 and the Chairman of the Committee for the Planning of Emerging Technology in Nat¡¯l Planning of Sci. & Technol. (Apr. 01-Dec. 01) of the Ministry of Science & Technology (MOST), the Head of the Nat¡¯l Nano-Photonics Research Group of MOST (Aug. 02 ?July. 05), the Chairman of the Planning and Promotion Committee for the Creative Research Initiative of the MOST (2001-2006), the Steering Committee Chairman of NANO-KOREA 2003 and the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of NANO-KOREA 2004 and NANO-KOREA 2005, the Dean of Graduate School of Ajou University (Jul. 2005-Feb. 2006), and the President of Korea Nano-Technology Research Society (Dec. 2003-Feb. 2006), and the Director General of the KOSEF (Korea Science and Engineering Foundation).
He is now serving as the Chairman of the Korea THz Forum (Mar. 2005-) and the Chairperson of IRMMW-THz 2009 that will be held at Busan, Korea on Sept. 2009, and the Dasan conference (a Korean Gordon Conference) on slow light that will be held at Jaeju Island, Korea on Nov. 2009.
